After the quick tunnel crossing our overnight stay is in the lovely town of Chalons en Champagne, with quick stop at the Circuit du Reims-Gueux on route so you can sample the feeling of yesteryears car and bike racing.  After breakfast we head towards Germany and our hotel on the edge of the Black Forest. Crossing the Moselle River and the Lorraine National Park en route before entering the Vosges Mountains with long sweeping bends and switchbacks to keep you entertained for the afternoon.

Stunning views across the Grossglockner Pass

The bucket list B500 kicks our 3rd day off.  Superb tarmac and fabulous sweeping curves await us. We then head across Bavaria with the Alps becoming ever closer. Ending our day in our fabulous hotel close to the Austrian border.

Traveling through the Austrian Tyrol region we get a taste of things to come, before we arrive at our superb alpine hotel for the next 2 nights, with a choice of ride outs the next day including the Grossglockner another bucket list biking road can be ticked off.

We then head west towards Switzerland taking in a few lesser known mountain passes on route arriving at our hotel which has stunning alpine peaks as its backdrop. After a good night rest we explore 4 mountain passes including the San Bernadino and Oberalpstrasse before passing some famous 007 film locations. Our hotel for the next 2 nights is typically alpine and a great location for tomorrows adventures.

Day 7 and the famous 5 of the Andermatt loop we actually ride 6 passes today but who’s counting.  We ride everything from cobbled passes (alternative available) to wide sweeping bends. Along with stunning scenery this is possibly the highlight of the tour, but you can be the judge of that with so many other stunning riding days on offer it’s a difficult one to call.

After the highlight of yesterday’s alpine passes we still have a few tricks up our sleeve as we head back to France via the Swiss Emmental region, before reaching the Vosges Mountains for our overnight stop.

We then ride north via Route des Cretes heading across open French countryside, stopping on route at Verdun to visit the WW1 memorial before our overnight stay next to the Semois River.

The last leg of our tour avoids motorways for most of the day crossing the Ardennes National Park into France then back into Belgium for a quick stop at the Chimay Classic Road Circuit which is still actively used to this day. Back into France, for the final push across the Natural Park of Avesnois. After lunch it’s the last leg up to the tunnel and the crossing back to the UK.

“Fantastic trip on the Austria and Swiss Alps tour with Paul and everyone else on the tour. Paul did a fantastic job of route planning and selecting very nice hotels along the route, very well researched with spectacular views and fantastic riding along the way. Didn’t know any of the others on the tour, but we all got along very well. I would highly recommend one of these trips with this company because I had a great time and went to places, I would never have seen on my own. Cheers again Paul for a brilliant trip. Bob 😁”

“Just completed the latest tour with these guys,. I’ve done a lot of European touring over the years but never a guided tour, so didn’t know what to expect. I found it to be a great experience, the planned routes and hotels were excellent, our guide Paul was great and encouraged us to go at our own speed, no pressure to keep up or stay with the group. By the second day I was off on my own meeting the rest of the group for lunch coffee etc. I would recommend this company to riders of all experience levels.”

Austrian & Swiss Alps Motorcycle Tour – Frequently Asked Questions

What are the three legendary bucket-list roads on the Austrian & Swiss Alps tour?

This tour features three of Europe’s most iconic motorcycle roads in one incredible journey! First, the B500 Schwarzwaldhochstraße (Black Forest) – 60km of perfectly smooth tarmac with sweeping curves through Germany’s Black Forest. Second, the Grossglockner High Alpine Road – Austria’s highest mountain pass at 2,504 meters featuring 36 numbered hairpin bends, the Edelweißspitze viewing platform at 2,571m, and stunning views of Austria’s highest peak (3,798m) and the Pasterze Glacier. Third, the legendary Andermatt 5-Pass Loop (actually 6 passes!) including Furka, Grimsel, Susten, San Gotthard, Tremola, and Nufenen – widely considered Europe’s finest day of motorcycling. Three bucket-list achievements in 11 days!

What makes the Andermatt 5-Pass Loop so special?

The Andermatt Loop is considered the holy grail of European motorcycle touring! In one spectacular day, you’ll ride six legendary Swiss passes: Furka Pass (2,429m – featured in James Bond “Goldfinger”), Grimsel Pass (2,164m), Susten Pass (2,224m), Nufenen Pass (2,478m – Switzerland’s highest), San Gotthard Pass (2,106m), and the historic cobbled Tremola Pass (smooth alternative available). The loop delivers approximately 150 miles of pure motorcycling perfection featuring smooth sweeping bends, tight hairpins, dramatic cliff-edge roads, Alpine plateau scenery, glacier views, and everything from modern perfect tarmac to historic cobblestones. Many riders return to Switzerland specifically to ride this loop again – it’s that good!

What’s included in the 11-day Austrian & Swiss Alps tour package?

The tour includes return Eurotunnel crossing (Folkestone-Calais), 10 nights accommodation in quality motorcycle-friendly hotels across France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium, daily breakfast at all hotels, welcome and farewell group dinners, detailed route maps with GPS files, expert tour guide throughout, hotel parking fees, and comprehensive daily itineraries. You provide your own motorcycle, riding gear, fuel, lunches and most dinners, travel insurance, and personal expenses. All accommodation is carefully selected for quality, location, spectacular Alpine views, and biker-friendly facilities.

What can I expect riding the Grossglockner High Alpine Road?

The Grossglockner is an unforgettable experience! Built in the 1930s as Austria’s premier Alpine road, it features 36 numbered hairpin bends climbing to Hochtor at 2,504 meters (8,215 feet). The perfectly maintained smooth tarmac winds through dramatic mountain scenery with views of Austria’s highest peak, Grossglockner Mountain (3,798m), and the massive Pasterze Glacier. Stop at the famous Edelweißspitze viewing platform at 2,571 meters for breathtaking 360° panoramic views across the Austrian Alps. The road includes visitor centers, Alpine museums, and numerous photo stops. Your rest/ride-out day at the Grossglockner allows plenty of time to savor every hairpin, every view, and every moment of this bucket-list achievement!

Is the historic Tremola cobbled pass difficult to ride?

The Tremola Pass is rideable but challenging! This historic section of the San Gotthard route features original granite cobblestones laid in the early 1800s with tight switchbacks descending through stunning Alpine scenery. Many riders love the historic experience and unique challenge. However, we always provide a smooth tarmac alternative route via the San Gotthard pass. You choose based on your comfort level, riding experience, weather conditions. Most riders attempt the Tremola for the historic experience, but there’s absolutely no pressure – the smooth route is equally spectacular and gets you to the same destination!

What’s the weather like in late June for the Austrian & Swiss Alps tour?

Late June (24 June – 04 July 2026) is ideal for Alpine touring! All mountain passes are guaranteed open, weather is typically excellent with temperatures of 20-28°C (68-82°F) in valleys and 15-20°C (59-68°F) at high passes. You’ll enjoy long daylight hours (15+ hours), minimal rainfall probability, clear mountain air, and perfect riding conditions. Snow remains visible on high peaks adding to the spectacular scenery, but roads are clear and dry. Pack layers for varying altitudes – warm weather gear for valleys, cooler weather options for high passes. This timing ensures you experience the Alps at their absolute best with maximum visibility and comfortable riding temperatures throughout.

What type of motorcycle do I need for the Austrian & Swiss Alps tour?

Any reliable motorcycle is suitable, we generally suggest 500cc or above, but the modern adventure scooters such as the Honda ADV350 are also more than capable. Popular choices of course include BMW GS series, Honda Africa Twin, Triumph Tiger, adventure tourers, sport tourers, touring bikes. The tour features exclusively paved roads with excellent tarmac throughout – no off-road sections. Your motorcycle should be roadworthy, properly serviced, and have adequate luggage capacity for 11 days touring. Since you’ll tackle high Alpine passes with hairpin bends, a comfortable bike with good low-speed maneuverability is beneficial. Most importantly, ride what you’re comfortable with – riders successfully complete this tour on everything from adventure bikes to sports tourers to cruisers!

Can I join the Austrian & Swiss Alps tour as a solo rider?

Absolutely! Solo riders are very welcome and typically make up 50-60% of our tour groups. You can choose between sharing a twin room with another solo rider or upgrading to a private single room for additional cost. Many solo riders specifically choose guided tours to meet like-minded motorcyclists and share incredible experiences. Our small group sizes (typically 8-12 riders) create a friendly, intimate atmosphere where solo riders quickly feel part of the group. Your tour guide ensures everyone feels included while respecting individual riding preferences and pace. Many solo riders form lasting friendships and return for multiple tours!

Which James Bond filming locations will we see on the tour?

You’ll ride through several iconic 007 filming locations in the Swiss Alps! Day 7 includes riding via the Oberalp Pass and surrounding areas where scenes from multiple Bond films were shot. The Furka Pass (part of the Andermatt Loop on Day 8) is famous for appearing in “Goldfinger” (1964) – the spectacular chase scene where Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 battles Goldie’s Ford Mustang. The dramatic Alpine scenery around the San Gotthard region has appeared in several Bond films. It adds extra excitement knowing you’re riding the same roads as 007!

How physically demanding is the 11-day Austrian & Swiss Alps tour?

Moderately demanding but manageable for riders with average fitness. Daily distances range from 160-240 miles with regular breaks for fuel, coffee, photos, and lunch. The tour includes two rest days (both with optional ride-outs), allowing recovery between riding days. High Alpine passes require concentration and careful throttle control through hairpins, but you ride at your own pace with no pressure to keep up. Some days involve upto 6 hours in the saddle, so a comfortable, well-set-up motorcycle is important. The physical rewards – incredible scenery, bucket-list achievements, and riding euphoria – far outweigh the effort! Most riders find the combination of riding days and rest days creates perfect balance between adventure and recovery.
