Why Choose Our Sardinia and Corsica Motorcycle Tour?

Our Sardinia and Corsica motorcycle tour is the ultimate 15-day autumn adventure combining the most dramatic roads in southern France with the legendary island riding of Sardinia and Corsica — two destinations that consistently top the bucket lists of serious motorcyclists. These islands are home to roads that have been used for decades as the proving grounds for motorcycle manufacturers launching new bikes, and for good reason. The scenery is jaw-dropping, the tarmac is immaculate, and the traffic is light.

This carefully planned Sardinia and Corsica motorcycle tour features expert guide Paul Winsor, small group sizes of maximum 12 riders, two island rest days both close to the beach, and premium accommodation throughout. With three ferry crossings providing a seamless island-to-island experience, this tour delivers an entirely different flavour to our Alpine and Balkan adventures — combining wild, remote mountain roads with stunning Mediterranean coastline, ancient hilltop villages, and the kind of riding freedom that only island touring can offer.

The outbound journey through France is far from just a transit — you’ll cross the gorges and National Parks of the Massif Central, ride the Tarn Gorge, cross the iconic Millau Viaduct, and pass through the hauntingly preserved village of Oradour-sur-Glane. On the return, the Route Napoléon, Gorge du Verdon and Jura Mountains complete an itinerary that is rich in both riding quality and cultural depth.

You leave the UK via Eurotunnel from Folkestone and head south through France, overnighting in Chartres in the shadow of one of the finest Gothic cathedrals in Europe. The following day takes you through the wetlands and forests of the Parc naturel régional de la Brenne and the rolling hills of the Limousin before reaching Limoges. A short detour brings you to Oradour-sur-Glane, the village frozen in time since 1944 — a sobering and powerful stop before your adventure south truly begins.

The Millau Viaduct — the world’s tallest bridge

Day three heads into the Cévennes National Park and the wild Tarn Gorge before arriving at Millau, where the views of the breathtaking Millau Viaduct — the tallest bridge in the world — set the tone for the grandeur to come. Day four brings you through the Cévennes National Park, before dropping down to the Mediterranean port of Toulon where you board your overnight ferry to Sardinia.

Waking up on the ferry to the sight of Sardinia’s rugged coastline is a moment that never gets old. Heading down the west coast we then cross the centre of Sardinia to our base for two nights on the wild Ogliastra east coast — one of Sardinia’s most beautiful and unspoilt stretches of shoreline, with crystal-clear turquoise water. Your rest day here is a chance to explore the beach and soak up the sun. Or take the ride-out day option covering some of Sardinia’s finest motorcycle roads — through the Ogliastra hinterland, and into the Gennargentu National Park, the island’s rugged mountainous heart.

Sardinia’s SS125 — one of Europe’s finest motorcycle roads

You ride north via the spectacular SS125 and across the centre of the island to the island’s northern tip, where the next day a short ferry hop across the Strait of Bonifacio brings you into Corsica. You’ll base yourself on the beautiful northwest coast for two nights — another beach rest day or a full ride-out day exploring the northern peninsular on some of the finest roads in Europe. The D81 hugs the dramatic west coast above Porto, the D84 crosses the Col de Vergio through the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse, and the D80 traces the wild northeastern coastline — roads that are regularly used for motorcycle manufacturer launches and press tests. It’s easy to see why.

Following day you ride south to Ajaccio, the birthplace of Napoleon, where your second overnight ferry carries you back to the French mainland at Toulon. The return journey north is anything but ordinary. Day twelve takes you into the spectacular Gorge du Verdon and our overnight stop, at the starting point of the legendary Route Napoléon — Napoleon’s dramatic march north after landing at Golfe-Juan in 1815. The next You’ll ride sections of the N85 as it sweeps through the Pre-Alps up onto the Vercors plateau to your next overnight stop near Grenoble.

Heading further north through Parc naturel régional de Chartreuse and Parc naturel régional du massif des Bauges past Lake Annecy finishing the day in Jura Mountains a landscape of high plateaus, dense forests, and sweeping valley roads that are often overlooked but consistently deliver exceptional riding. From here, you head north through Lorraine and Champagne to your last evening in Verdun, the site of one of the First World War’s most defining and devastating battles. Your final days ride continues to take us north east and back to our original starting point, and our afternoon Eurotunnel crossing back to the UK.

Sardinia & Corsica Motorcycle Tour — Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Sardinia and Corsica so special for motorcycle touring?

Both islands have been used by motorcycle manufacturers for press launches and new model testing for decades — the roads are that good. Sardinia’s SS125 is one of the most celebrated motorcycle roads in Europe, combining tight coastal mountain hairpins with sweeping inland curves. Corsica’s D81, D84, and Col de Vergio deliver equally jaw-dropping riding through mountain scenery above the Mediterranean. Add light traffic, warm autumn weather in October, immaculate tarmac, and stunning scenery at every turn, and you begin to understand why riders return time and again.

What is the best time of year for this tour?

October is an excellent time for Sardinia and Corsica. The summer crowds are gone, the sea is still warm enough for swimming (typically 22–24°C), the roads are quiet, and the light is beautiful. Temperatures on both islands in early October are typically 20–25°C during the day. In France the Gorge du Verdon, Cévennes, and Jura are at their autumn best.

How do the ferry crossings work?

There are three ferry crossings on this tour. The first is an overnight crossing from Toulon to Sardinia (approximately 12–14 hours) — you board in the evening and wake up on the island. On Day 7, a short daytime crossing connects Santa Teresa Gallura in northern Sardinia to Bonifacio in southern Corsica — one of the most scenic ferry routes in the Mediterranean at around 60 minutes. The second overnight ferry runs from Ajaccio back to Toulon at the end of the Corsica section. All ferry crossings are included in the tour price.

What type of motorcycle do I need?

Any reliable, well-serviced motorcycle is suitable — we generally recommend 500cc or above. Adventure tourers, sport tourers, and touring bikes all perform excellently on these routes. The roads on Sardinia and Corsica are tarmac throughout with no off-road sections. Modern adventure scooters such as the Honda ADV350 are also more than capable. Ensure your tyres, brakes, and chain are in good condition before departure.

Can I join as a solo rider?

Absolutely — solo riders are very welcome and typically make up a significant proportion of our groups. You can choose a shared twin room with another solo rider or upgrade to a private single room. Our tours are social and friendly, and solo riders invariably return home with new riding friends.

What is there to do on the rest days?

Both rest days are based near the beach. In Bari Sardo on the Ogliastra coast of Sardinia you have some of the finest beaches in the Mediterranean — crystal-clear turquoise water, white sand, and dramatic limestone cliffs with very few other visitors in October. In Calvi on the northwest coast of Corsica, the town’s 6km sandy bay, Genoese citadel, harbour cafés, and mountain backdrop make for a perfect day off the bike.

What are the highlights of the French section of the tour?

The French routing is genuinely spectacular and not just a means of getting to the ferry. Outbound highlights include the Tarn Gorge, the Millau Viaduct, Oradour-sur-Glane, the Cévennes National Park, and the Parc naturel de Millevaches. On the return, Gorge du Verdon, the Route Napoléon, Parc Régional du Massif des Bauges, Parc Naturel Régional de la Chartreuse, the Vercors plateau, and the Jura Mountains add up to a French section that many riders would rate as among the finest touring in Europe in its own right.

Do I need a visa for any of the countries on this tour?

No. France and Italy (including Sardinia and Corsica) are both EU Schengen countries. UK passport holders do not require a visa and may stay for up to 90 days in a 180-day period. All crossings on this tour are straightforward for UK riders.
