Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and arguably the most dramatic — a volcanic landscape dominated by the towering Mount Teide (3,715m), Spain’s highest peak, with roads that wind through lava fields, pine forests, and lunar-like terrain found nowhere else in Europe. A ferry crossing brings you to La Gomera — the wild, ancient island beloved by hikers and off-the-beaten-track travellers, with a UNESCO World Heritage rainforest at its centre and roads that plunge into deep ravines and climb to cloud-level viewpoints. From there, another ferry crossing delivers you to Gran Canaria, where the central mountain interior provides an entirely different style of riding — tight technical switchbacks through dramatic ravines and passes, with the north coast’s lush green landscapes a world away from the sun-baked south.

This is a fly-ride tour — you fly out to Tenerife South airport, and your hire bike is ready to collect the following morning. Your Canary Islands adventure begins the moment you land at Tenerife South airport. The bikes are collected on the morning of Day 2 and your base for the first three nights is Los Cristianos — the bustling resort town on Tenerife’s sunny southern coast, with easy access to the island’s finest riding roads. Three days of riding bring you face to face with Tenerife’s extraordinary volcanic landscape — the roads around Mount Teide National Park are unlike anything in mainland Europe, with the great cone dominating the skyline from every angle and the terrain shifting constantly from black lava fields to fragrant pine forest to dramatic ravine country.

Day 2 heads west along the TF-38 coastal road — one of Tenerife’s great motorcycle routes — before climbing inland through the Teno massif and the volcanic landscapes around Santiago del Teide. Ancient lava flows, towering rock formations, and viewpoints looking out across the Atlantic make this an unforgettable opening day.

Day 3 is the longest and most varied — riding north to the Garachico coast and the beautifully preserved colonial town of La Orotava before the afternoon ascent to the Teide Observatory at nearly 3,000 metres. The lunar landscape of the caldera with Teide’s summit cone above is one of those riding moments that stays with you long after the tour ends. The descent south is equally memorable — the TF-28, known locally as the road of a thousand curves, winds down through Tenerife’s pine forest interior via Arico in a series of sweeping curves and tight hairpins that make it one of the most celebrated motorcycle roads on the island. You’ll ride it again on Days 6 and 9 — once northbound on the way to Santa Cruz, and again on the final ride south to Los Cristianos — and it rewards every time.

Day 4 takes you south and inland through the pine forests, climbing via Vilaflor de Chasna — at 1,400 metres the highest village in the Canary Islands — on the spectacular TF-21, before riding to the ferry port. Your bike travels with you on the crossing to La Gomera — one of the most dramatic short sea crossings in the Atlantic, with Teide towering above the clouds behind you as La Gomera grows on the horizon. La Gomera is the least visited of the main Canary Islands and one of the most rewarding to ride — a rugged, circular island of deep barrancos (ravines), terraced hillsides, and the extraordinary Garajonay National Park, a primeval laurisilva rainforest unchanged since before the last ice age. The full island circuit on Day 5 takes you north through the island’s deep ravines to the remote western coast at Valle Gran Rey — a dramatic valley that plunges from cloud-level peaks straight to the Atlantic — before climbing back to some of La Gomera’s finest viewpoints looking out across the Garajonay forest. The roads are tight, technical, and almost entirely traffic-free.

From La Gomera the ferry returns you to Tenerife for a ride north along the island’s quieter eastern coast through Güímar to Santa Cruz de Tenerife — the island’s elegant capital with its wide boulevards, striking modern architecture, and excellent waterfront. A morning ride through the wild Anaga Rural Park — ancient laurel forest and dramatic ridgelines dropping steeply to the sea on both sides — takes in the Punta del Hidalgo lighthouse and the panoramic Pico del Inglés viewpoint before the ferry crossing to Gran Canaria. Your bike travels with you once again, arriving on the north-west coast for a short ride inland to a mountain base perfectly positioned for the final ride out.

Gran Canaria’s mountainous interior is a revelation that surprises almost every rider who encounters it for the first time. The island’s central spine reaches nearly 2,000 metres and the roads that climb through it are among the most dramatic in the entire Canary Islands. The Day 8 circuit loops through the island’s highest reaches, culminating at Pico de las Nieves (1,949m) — Gran Canaria’s summit — where on a clear day you can see Tenerife with Teide rising above the clouds on the horizon. Volcanic calderas, ancient ravines, pine forest roads, and views that stretch in every direction across a landscape sculpted by millions of years of volcanic activity make this the most technically rewarding day of the tour. The final morning brings the last ferry crossing — your bike making its fourth and final crossing back to Tenerife — for the ride south to Los Cristianos and bike drop-off.
